Flower Preservation – Frequently Asked Questions

The sooner the better! Book your desired date at your earliest convenience, to avoid disappointment. Should you have any concerns please email us

You pay a R600 non-refundable deposit to book the date for your preservation – this is the date that we will begin the drying process for your flowers. 

Once the order has been confirmed for all the products you would like. The invoice will include the R600, so you will have a R600 credit. 

To have the best possible resin keepsakes with the freshest looking flowers, we require that they arrive at our office 24-72 after the wedding depending on the condition and care of the flowers. We preserve the flowers using a unique technique which preserve the quality and colour of the flower when done within this time.

The longer the flowers wait to be dried the higher the risk of wilting and bruising. 

Assign someone you trust to take care of them once the formalities are done.

Do’s:

  1. Keep your flowers in water when they are not being used and after the event.
  2. Try to keep your flowers out of direct heat or in a cool dark room.

Dont’s:

  1. Try to avoid touching your flowers as this can result in extra oils and bruising of the flowers.
  2. We recommend NOT using your bridal bouquet for the bridal toss. 
  3. When shipping us your flowers do not put plastic or a bag around your flowers as this can act as a heat chamber.

You receive via email step-by-step instructions on how to get your flowers to us safely and quickly. We courier across SA but are based in Randburg, Gauteng

We do have a drop-off/pickup option which is preferred for the condition of the flowers. Please email us to arrange details. 

IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE, when we send for a courier to collect your flowers (nationwide). If you are in a regional area or on a special route, this can delay the overnight shipments and so it is important that we establish these timelines beforehand to avoid any disappointment

The longer the flowers wait to be dried the higher the risk of wilting and bruising. 

It is very important to take special care of your flowers the day of the event. It is quite normal for the flowers to be moved around & used as they are supposed to be used!

However, avoid touching the flower petals and throwing the bouquet if possible.

If you do a bouquet toss at your wedding, consider buying an artificial bouquet or a mini bouquet to throw instead.

Some bruising on flower petals is unavoidable and we think it adds some character. To decrease the chances of them bruising, handle them gently. The bruises will not be seen until they are layered in resin.  

Keep the flower stems in water until the time of delivery and then follow our delivery  instructions for the best flower condition!

No, it is important to NOT place your bouquet in the freezer or fridge! A household-grade fridge is not good for your flowers and a freezer is simply too cold! After removing your flowers from a freezer, the flowers will droop, rot and mold very quickly.

We do not accept bouquets that have been placed in the freezer.

However no need to fear if you have done this already! Simply call your florist and ask them to make a mini version of your wedding bouquet, and we can preserve that!

Our turnaround time is based purely on your specific preservation. At most, expect about a 10 weeks turnaround time, however, this is not an exact timeline. We want to make sure all the details of your forever resin piece are perfect before shipping to you.

Yes! Do you have your bouquet from years ago, we would love to create a special resin keepsake from it! We will work our magic and turn your dusty bouquet into an beautiful keepsake to display.

We cannot accept flowers with gold or moisture on them. If you are unsure if we can work with them, feel free to email us photos

Forget Me Not Memories is not responsible for any mold, rotting, dust or hairs that are within the flowers that we cannot see.

For the encapsulation it is very important that everything is completely dry before going into resin. Succulents are full of moisture and when dried, they shrivel like a raisin. For this reason, we do not work with succulents of any kind. However, if you have a bouquet that is a mixture of flowers and succulents,  plant the succulents at home somewhere special and send us the flowers to preserve!

Depending on your order size, we will assess every one of your flowers carefully and will pick the most beautiful and healthy blooms/greenery to include in your designs! If you are wanting to get the most out of your flowers, we suggest upgrading the size of your preservation.

We do not ship extra flowers back.

Your bouquet will go through a transformation process while it is being preserved.
Some of the changes that may occur (but not limited to):

  • Red/deep-colored roses will get darker
  • White flowers will develop into a more off-white or yellow tone
  • ”Bruising” or “translucent spots” may occur. To reduce this, try not to handle/touch/throw your flowers. (Pro tip: do a bouquet toss with an artificial or mini bouquet!)
  • Some tropical flowers/greenery may not survive the drying process or may turn a brown color.
  • The flowers will move slightly once the resin is poured on top.

If you are wanting to preserve a replica of your bouquet, here is how you can do so.

  1. Contact the florist who made your original bouquet, to create a new one to send to us fresh! You can place an order as normal. Just make sure to pick a date that works with the florist’s timing.
  2. Email us, and we can work through photos of your bouquet etc and source similar flowers for your preservation.

Note: Option 1 is recommended due to the more simplistic steps for getting another bouquet ordered.

Breast Milk  Preservation – Frequently Asked Questions

We need about 50mls of fresh breastmilk to make a keepsake. We suggest freezing and storing the milk in the suitable sealed pouch our container. 

Your milk must be delivered to frozen to ensure it remains fresh.

Place your contents in an extra larger of plastic protection as it may begin to defrost in delivery.

Please clearly mark your name and order number onto the sealed contents. 

Once your breast milk is ready for collection, we will send a courier to you to collect and bring it back to our offices.

  • We use the Courier Guy Express delivery for local clients and overnight delivery for other clients nationwide.
  • Express – is a same day delivery. If you live outside of Gauteng we use overnight delivery which normally gets to us the next day but can take 2 days in some instances.
  • You will receive the tracking number to be able to track the progress of your package during its road trip.
  • We will inform you soonest when the parcel has made it safely and is now in our care. 

Due to Courier Guy being a third party company, we are not held responsible for any loss or damage to your contents, we take all precautions to avoid as many potential issues as possible. Cremation Preservation – Frequently Asked Questions

We only use a small amount of your loved ones ash to create these beautiful pieces. 

For small jewellery items: 1 teaspoon is enough

For larger decor pieces: 2 tablespoons is enough

Please don’t send us all the ash you have, as we don’t want any potential problems to arise creating the most heart ache.

Any remaining ash will be carefully packed with your order and delivered back to you.

We suggest placing your loved ones ashes inside a ziplock sealed bag, and then placing that bag inside another ziplock bag for added protection. It is recommended to then place this inside of an envelope. Please write you name and order number clearly on the front of the bag.

The Courier Guy will collect this envelope directly from you, make sure it is placed inside their plastic company sleeve and they will then deliver your precious contents directly to our offices.

Once your loved ones cremated ash is ready for collection, we will send a courier to you to collect and bring it back to our offices.

Hair Preservation – Frequently Asked Questions

We need a decent lock of hair.

  • Tie the lock of hair needs securely in the middle with a piece of string to ensure that it does not separate or tangle during delivery.
  • Place the hair into a small plastic ziplock packet and clearly mark your name and order number onto it.
  • We can accommodate any length, it is important to note that all hair is different and will differ in preservations.
  • If you only have hair from a hair brush for example, please email us, so that we can advise you properly. 

If the hair is extremely sentimental, please don’t send us all the hair you have.

We suggest storing the hair in a sealed ziplock bag. the hair should be neatly tied with a piece of string to avoid tangling, etc. 

Please clearly mark your name and order number onto the sealed contents. 

Once your hair is ready for collection, we will send a courier to you to collect and bring it back to our offices.

Shipping – Frequently Asked Questions

Our offices are based out of Randburg, Gauteng, but we can deliver all over the SA!

You are able to deliver your contents to our offices if you feel more comfortable.

Email us if you are interested in this option.

Once you have placed an order,  you will receive shipping instructions via your email confirmation. 

We take the express or overnight delivery to eliminate any potential issues of the contents staying in their  premises for too long. 

Courier Guy is a third party service, and so we cannot be hold responsible should anything happen to the contents in this time. 

We have the option of you dropping off the contents at our offices if you feel safer doing so. 

Care Instructions – Frequently Asked Questions

Each piece is made with high-quality resin that is very durable, but it still needs to be handled with care. The suggestions are very simple. Please keep your keepsake out of direct sunlight for optimal protection. You may also wipe down your piece occasionally by using a lint-less cloth.

The resin we use to preserve your flowers is clear and of high-quality. It provides a three-dimensional experience of viewing your wedding flowers. Over time, the resin might develop a slight amber-like glow. We think this adds a beautiful, vintage element to it.

Disclaimer: resin yellowing is an inevitable effect from the natural aging of your product. The best way to prevent this from happening is to leave it out of any kind of direct sunlight.

We are not responsible for the natural effects of aging in your product.

Our large resin keepsakes are self-standing, and we recommend displaying it in a location where it will be seen and enjoyed the most but left out of direct sunlight. Combining your custom keepsake with wedding photos in a special place is a beautiful idea!

Resin can preserve almost anything, as long as it doesn’t contain moisture, or can be perfectly dried before encapsulation we can preserve it.
